At LifeLabs, we are committed to making our labs accessible to everyone. This year, we are tremendously proud to announce that LifeLabs is the first lab in Canada to become Accessibility Certified by the Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF).
The Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) is a rating system that measures the level of meaningful access beyond building code and is based upon the holistic user experience of people with varying disabilities affecting their mobility, vision, and hearing.
Earlier this year, LifeLabs participated in the RHFAC pilot program in BC to evaluate the level of meaningful access in our laboratories and patient service centres and to highlight accessibility challenges and recommendations.
“As Canada’s largest community lab, it’s critical that our services are accessible to every Canadian,” says Louise Nagy, National Director of Community and Environmental Sustainability at LifeLabs. “The certification is a reflection of our commitment to providing meaningful access to our patients as well as our employees.”
LifeLabs received a formal acknowledgement as ‘RHF Accessibility Certified’ for all ten locations that participated in the pilot.
“I encourage every organization to take part in this certification process,” adds Louise. “It’s an eye-opening experience to the challenges that are sometimes overlooked. I certainly learned a lot throughout the experience and I am proud that we are working to bring accessible-minded designs to all of our new locations and will continue to implement this practice now and into the future.”
