Today, we’re sharing two stories from the Islington Avenue Patient Service Centre and how they exemplify how care, compassion, and positivity make all the difference in a patient’s health journey.
Turning Routine Care into a Positive Experience
I went in for a simple blood-drawing appointment. Upon arriving, the front desk was super polite and gathered my information quickly before telling me to have a seat.
When it was my turn, I met with a Lab Patient Technician named Maria. She was super friendly and kind. We ended up talking and laughing, and she called me pretty, which made my day because I sure didn’t feel beautiful that day.
She could find my vein so quickly, and I have small veins, so usually, it’s a struggle, but Maria was so skilled and professional! She even gave me clear instructions on how to prevent bruising and how to remove the bandage to prevent a rash. 10/10. I will be using this lab in the future 😊.

The Power of Smiles, Reassurance, and Skill
This incredible staff must be praised. Upon my arrival, I was greeted with smiles. They explained the necessary processes in detail and took my information, reassuring me to sit as I would be called up shortly.
Upon waiting, I heard a patient ask if Maria was working. I had not gotten blood work in years, and when I was directed to the back with the friendliest and most calming service, I noticed Maria was helping me. This put me at ease. Maria thoroughly explained the two-hour testing to me, and she kept me calm the entire time, while her incredible skill made it super easy and painless.
This is not a typical service—it is extraordinary and special. The staff here is incredible and makes this experience enjoyable. Thank you to the awesome staff!
