Toronto, ON – June 5, 2023 – Today, on World Environment Day, we proudly showcase LifeLabs’ unwavering commitment to a sustainable future, setting an example of corporate social responsibility that extends beyond our expertise in medical laboratories.
LifeLabs was the first medical laboratory in Canada to invest in cutting-edge technology and research, recognizing the detrimental impact of untreated toxic water on the environment and public health. Since then, we have implemented an innovative water treatment system that effectively removes Sodium Azide from our wastewater before releasing it into the public sewage system.
Sodium Azide, a common pollutant found in laboratory wastewater, poses a significant threat to aquatic life and can become even more hazardous when combined with acids or metals as it travels through the water system. Our state-of-the-art Ozone Treatment System plays a vital role in filtering over 6 million litres of water annually, ensuring the removal of harmful contaminants and safeguarding our ecosystems.
To ensure the reliability of our water treatment system, we conduct monthly water tests, sending samples to an external lab for verification. This meticulous process guarantees the effectiveness of our efforts in protecting the environment and public health.
While treating wastewater for Sodium Azide is not mandated, our belief in corporate social responsibility drives us to go above and beyond in our efforts to support our environment and communities. Taking proactive steps to make a positive difference.
