At LifeLabs, we are proud to highlight National Medical Laboratory Week and honour the incredible contributions of medical lab professionals and the teams that support them in empowering healthier Canadians. Follow along as we share inspiring stories of how our expertise and care provide reassurance and insights for patients.
In today’s story, we’re profiling Director, Laboratory Operations, Raminder Rai, who exemplifies how teamwork at LifeLabs can advance patient care across Canada.
As one of LifeLabs leaders in Laboratory Operations, Raminder splits her time between long-term planning, ensuring that LifeLabs can continue to make an impact in the communities we serve, while also focusing on addressing immediate opportunities and ensuring every team member has what they need to succeed. Fundamentally, Raminder leads with teamwork and caring, ensuring that everyone’s perspective is heard and considered.
“No two days are the same! What I enjoy most is building meaningful connections and meeting people across the organization,” said Raminder. “I value the opportunity to collaborate with others, knowing that we are all working toward the same goal of empowering healthier Canadians.”
And it’s Raminder’s dedication and commitment to making an impact that has resonated with her fellow team members and leaders.
“Raminder has been a valued member of LifeLabs for over 15 years, steadily advancing in her career through dedication, resilience, and a commitment to our core values,” said Tom Alaimo, Vice President of Laboratory Operations and Support Services. “Her leadership style is grounded in authenticity and collaboration, consistently setting a strong example of caring, agility, and teamwork. Raminder’s journey is a testament to the impact of leading with purpose and integrity.”
And her leadership was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. While Canadians waited to return to their regular lives, Raminder took action. Leading with agility, Raminder was part of the team that developed a new COVID-19 test within seven days.
“From there, we expanded into workplace and travel testing, which helped Canadians regain some sense of normalcy—whether that meant returning to work in impacted industries or being able to travel to see family again. Knowing that our efforts gave people hope and connection during such a difficult period made that contribution deeply meaningful to me,” said Raminder.
Guided by LifeLabs’ values of caring, agility, teamwork, and a customer-centred focus, Raminder’s leadership continues to elevate our teams and support the broader Canadian healthcare system.
“I feel fortunate to play a part in this work by supporting our teams and helping them deliver the best care possible. Knowing that what we do touches people’s lives every day is both humbling and rewarding,” said Raminder.
