Vice President, Medical and Quality Affairs

Dr. Catherine Ross is the Vice President, Medical and Quality Affairs for LifeLabs.  

As Vice President of Medical and Quality Affairs, Dr. Ross oversees LifeLabs’ Med-Sci and Quality teams nationwide, playing a critical role in its operations and supporting LifeLabs’ strategic objectives. 

Dr. Ross, a pathologist, a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and professor emeritus at McMaster University, brings a wealth of experience to her role.  

In her previous role as medical director for Ontario, Dr. Ross supported the work of the laboratories and the medical and scientific staff, the leadership, and the provision of high-quality, accurate and timely patient diagnostic services. 

Dr. Ross graduated from McMaster medical school and completed her residency in Anatomic Pathology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She has a focused expertise practice in malignant hematological disease diagnosis. 

She has a Master of Science degree in immunology (McMaster University) and a Master’s certificate in health care administration from the Schulich School of Business. She has completed several leadership programs, including the Canadian Medical Association/Ontario Medical Association physician leadership program. 

Dr. Ross is active in medical education and is the current co-chair of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada fellowship examination board in Anatomic Pathology. 

Dr. Ross has worked with Cancer Care Ontario (CCO-OH) on the Complex malignant hematology steering committee and has supported work done by the Cancer Care Ontario Pathology and Laboratory Medicine program for many years. 

She is also active with the Ontario Medical Association (OMA), previously as Chair of Laboratory Medicine, and currently as a member of the priorities and leadership group. 

Dr. Ross has a longstanding interest in patient safety and quality. In addition to being past president of the Canadian Association of Pathologists, she received the Leadership in Patient Safety and Quality Assurance award from the Canadian Association of Pathologists and has published over 80 articles, abstracts, and presentations.
