In his current role as President and CEO of LifeLabs Medical Laboratory, Charles is committed to the optimization of service delivery to provide better outcomes for customers, patients, medical professionals and broader healthcare system.
Since joining LifeLabs in 2018, Charles has worked to evolve LifeLabs into a commercially driven organization that brings customer-centred value to market. By showcasing the possibility of delivering value-based outcomes, Charles empowers his employees to make a difference and facilitate innovative change. During COVID-19, Charles’ leadership empowered the team to quickly pivot and adapt to respond to the pandemic by providing essential COVID-19 testing, while maintaining full operation of lab testing and diagnostic work.
Charles’ leadership has been recognized on a global stage numerous times, winning an award for Leadership Excellence in Medical Diagnostics & Laboratory Testing by CEO Today in 2023, being recognized as a Top 100 Innovation CEO by World Biz Magazine in 2022 and being named a Top 25 Biotechnology CEO by the Healthcare Technology Report in both 2021 and 2022. These awards were presented to CEOs and their teams that showcased outstanding contributions and advancements in healthcare. Charles was also nominated in 2022 by an external research team to receive the prestigious ‘Top Industry Leader’ award from Life Sciences Voice, being recognized amongst a list of distinguished leaders from BioPharma, BioTech, and related sectors.
Before joining LifeLabs, Charles served as President of The Source, Canada’s largest consumer electronics and mobile retailer. Charles led The Source to impressive results and growth by building an exceptional customer experience.
Prior to leading the Source, Charles served as Executive Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Bell, where he led the delivery of Bell’s telecommunications at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. He brings more than 25 years of experience as an innovative technology leader, from entrepreneurial start-ups to large corporate entities, including serving as President and CEO of Wave Wireless and Chief Information Officer of Clearnet.
Charles’ passion for community service extends to various roles on Boards and Executive Committees. He is a past member and long-time supporter of the United Way of Toronto and York Region’s Campaign Cabinet. He has served as the Chair of Kids Help Phone, and for the University of Toronto-Scarborough’s Campaign Cabinet. As a UofT alumni, Charles established two scholarships with the institution to support students attending his alma mater, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He is passionate about supporting youth in their educational endeavours and believes strongly that every student should have the opportunity and support to pursue higher education for a brighter future.
Charles also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Ivey School of Business at Western University.
