- Preparing a washroom in advance (cupboards secured, water shut off, taps taped, and toilet water blued)
- Asking the individual providing the specimen to remove loose clothing and leave purses/bags outside the washroom
- The staff member remaining outside the washroom door during collection
- Affixing a unique coded identifier to the collection container
- Affixing a temperature indicator to the side of a collection container to ensure the specimen is freshly voided
- Sealing the sample with tamper-evidence tape and sealing it in a tamper-evidence bag, all in the sight of the individual who provided the specimen so they are confident no one tampered with their sample after it was collected
- Completing a chain-of-custody form
