A Mother and Daughter Bond that is Flourishing at LifeLabs

May 12, 2024 – Introducing Geeta and Kimberley Boodram, a mother-daughter Medical Lab Technician team whose LifeLabs experience is a story about the strength of familial and shared passions. Their unique journey is not just about careers but a deep connection developed through love, support, and dedication to their work.

Geeta started her LifeLabs journey over a decade ago, in 2008. Inspired by a family member in the medical field, Geeta found her calling as a Medical Lab Technician at LifeLabs. “Working here at LifeLabs changed my life and gave me the ability to provide a better future for both my kids,” she says. “My husband supported me and helped me return to school after coming to Canada.  I learned about being a medical lab technician from another family member working in a Vancouver hospital.”

Little did she know her path would pave the way for her daughter, Kimberley, to follow in her footsteps. Kimberley initially pursued a career in Social Services and was not entirely fulfilled by her career choice. “I turned to my mom for guidance,” Kimberley recalls. “She told me wonderful stories about working at Lifelabs, her incredibly fulfilling experiences, and the ability to grow with LifeLabs.”

Their decision to work at the same company was not just a matter of convenience but a conscious choice guided by a desire to share experiences, support each other, and grow together. For Geeta, seeing her daughter thrive in a field they both love brings an unparalleled sense of accomplishment. “As a mom, seeing my daughter work hard in a field we both enjoy feels accomplished.”

For Kimberley, having her mother by her side eases the challenges and deepens their personal and professional relationship. “We have grown closer because of our common interest in the

medical field and working at the same company. I have someone who can support me and share my challenges and successes.”

Their time at LifeLabs is marked by memorable experiences, from overcoming bumps on the road together to simply sharing a laugh amidst the daily grind. “When I first started working for LifeLabs, it was intimidating,” said Kimberley, “I turned to my mom for guidance, and she took the time to explain how things are done step by step, from sample sorting to testing procedures to ECGs and especially data entry.”

Balancing their personal and professional lives has tested their strength as mothers and daughters. Geeta makes sure her daughter maintains a healthy work-life balance. “I make sure Kim knows that it’s important to create boundaries and leave work at work. It can be stressful sometimes, but she just does her best; that’s all she can do. As long as she knows she did her best, once her shift is over, I tell her to leave it at work, go home, and relax.”

Through their journey at LifeLabs, Geeta and Kimberley’s relationship has blossomed into something truly special. “Our relationship has gotten strong while working at Lifelabs because we developed an understanding of each other’s strengths, weaknesses, and working techniques,” says Kimberley. The same sentiment is shared by Geeta. “Working with your family members means watching them grow and succeed at small things they might’ve struggled with in the beginning; it’s an accomplishing feeling to watch your son or daughter thrive on their own.  I am proud of my daughter and all she has accomplished working in this field.”

As Geeta and Kimberley continue their passion at LifeLabs, they want to share that determination and a supportive family are all you need. “My respect and appreciation for my mom in the workplace and at home have grown. Not only is she a hard worker at LifeLabs, but she is the glue that holds our family together at home. I am a successful Medical Lab Tech because of my mom. Thank you, Mom!”

We send out gratitude and warmest wishes for a Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers in every shape and form! Thank you for all that you do!
