Toronto, Ontario – July 31, 2024: LifeLabs, a leading provider of laboratory diagnostic services, is pleased to introduce the Colorectal Health (FIT) Kit, a private pay at-home collection kit for fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) as part of our At Home Kit Program.
The Colorectal Health (FIT) Kit is a screening test for people at-risk of developing colorectal cancer. It serves as a convenient solution to support patients in Ontario who are looking to be proactive about their health but may be ineligible for the Ontario Health FIT program. Routine colorectal cancer (CRC) screening increases the chances of detecting curable, early-stage malignancies so that they can be appropriately treated and thereby increase survival outcomes. When CRC is caught early, 90% of people can be cured with effective treatment such as surgical rescission.
LifeLabs At Home Kit Program provides a diverse range of self-collection kits for various health tests, including cervical to colorectal health, hormonal health, and blood sugar monitoring. This proactive and private solution caters to individuals with busy schedules, those facing accessibility challenges, and anyone prioritizing their wellness journey.
“It’s important to us to be able to support Canadians who want to be proactive about their health and work with their healthcare provider with as much information as possible as their overall health profile,” said Charles Brown, President and CEO of LifeLabs. “We’re excited to introduce the Colorectal Health (FIT) Kit as a next step to support this overall goal for those seeking a convenient and flexible option for monitoring their colon health in a way that aligns with their lifestyle preferences.”
Patients with abnormal FIT results will be contacted by a health care provider within 1-2 business days of receiving their results to discuss possible treatment options, and overall next steps in their healthcare journey.
“Overall, adding the Colorectal Health (FIT) Kit to LifeLabs’ At Home Kit Program to support our organization’s goals for innovating patient-centred care and offering Canadians more personalized options to access essential testing services,” said Lawrence Mahan, SVP Commercial, Business and Consumer Markets. “What’s more, it empowers our customers to live their best health through various methods from lifestyle habits, to keeping up with essential medical testing so they and their healthcare providers can make informed decisions.”
The kit can be ordered online through the LifeLabs store, and once the collection process is complete, the kit can be via Canada Post or dropped off at the nearest LifeLabs patient service centre.
