May 25, 2021 – Toronto, ON – Today is the one-year anniversary of the death of George Floyd, a tragic event that inspired individuals and organizations around the world to take a stand against racial injustice. Over the past year, LifeLabs has taken a close look at how we can become a more inclusive and equitable company – we committed to stepping up to do better. We still have more work to do, but we’ve made good progress in elevating this issue through the establishment of our Stronger Together diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) program, our DEI Steering Council, and our employee resource group (ERG) for multi-cultural and racialized groups that will address anti-Black racism and injustice.
“As part of our DEI journey, we know that we need to continue to listen, recognize, and take meaningful action as allies, while amplifying the voices of those in the Black community,” says LifeLabs President & CEO, Charles Brown. “As a further demonstration of our commitment to DEI, LifeLabs, in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI), has helped sponsor Time for Change—a special report in today’s edition of the Globe and Mail. This special publication aims to amplify the voices of Black leaders, while shedding light on the work that still needs to be done to combat systemic inequalities across infrastructure, employment and other facets of daily life.”
As Canada’s largest community laboratory, LifeLabs recognizes the role it plays in celebrating the diversity of our communities while creating an environment where all of our employees and customers feel welcome, supported, and safe. Supporting journalistic efforts like these is an important step in making sure that all team members are heard, and LifeLabs is honoured to do its part in amplifying these voices.
