Dr. Carter joined LifeLabs in 2014 as the Director of the Genetics Laboratory. Playing a pivotal role in driving LifeLabs’ leadership role in genetic testing, Dr. Carter works with academic, industry and public partners to transform emergent technologies into meaningful genetic services that will inform diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. In his research capacity, he is primarily focused on collaborative studies involving clinical correlations of diagnostic or prognostic genetic markers.
Dr. Carter received a Master in Science from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and continued his studies at the Ontario Veterinary College before receiving his PhD in Veterinary Clinical Pathology from University of Guelph. He also received specialty certifications in both molecular genetics and cytogenetics. Dr. Carter has provided consulting support to multiple hospitals, served on numerous provincial and federal advisory committees, and has been active in training undergraduate medical students as well as postdoctoral fellows and medical residents at McMaster University.
