1Before you start

  • Read through these instructions carefully so that you can collect your sample effectively.
  • Ensure your kit contains all the items listed on the outside of the provided box.
  • Check the expiry date on your request form. You have six months after purchasing your kit to use it.
  • In order to process your sample quickly, we recommend you collect your sample between Monday and Thursday. Be sure to send it back within 24 hours of collection.

Do NOT use this kit if:

  • You are on your period. Wait until your period is over (you no longer have any bleeding).
  • You are pregnant or have given birth within the last 3 months.
  • The swab appears opened, damaged or expired (see YYYY-MM-DD date printed on the tube, not on the red cap). Contact LifeLabs at 1-877-849-3637 if so.
  • If you had a vaginal surgery or gynecological operative procedure in the last six weeks.

Record your sample collection date and time

You must write the date and time of your collection in two places:

  1. Write the date and time of your collection on the pre-filled collection label provided with this kit. Put the collection label on the sample tube.
  2. Write the date and time of your collection on the request form included with your kit. Place the request form in the clear ziptop bag.

Your sample will be rejected if this step is not completed.

Note: HPV testing is currently not part of Ontario’s cervical screening program and until HPV testing is implemented in the Ontario Cervical Screening Program, cervical screening with a Pap test is safe, accurate and allows people to receive key benefits of organized screening.
