In September 2013, Dr. Efaei joined the LifeLabs’ Medical Scientific Division as a Consultant Hematopathologist. Over the past five years, in conjunction with our Quality and Regulatory Affairs and operation teams, Dr. Erfaei has been a critical member in implementing the national hematology platform upgrade project, the provincial hematology total quality management plan, and provincial standardization of blood film reporting. Dr. Efaei also implemented and validated the new 10 color flow cytometry instrument while also providing client consultations. Dr. Efaei’s research is primarily focused on hematopathology, with an expertise in medical laboratory management, bone marrow and peripheral blood morphology, flow cytometry and hemoglobinopathies.
Dr. Erfaei obtained a medical degree from Al-Fateh University in Libya. In 2002, Dr. Erfaei moved to Canada to start her residency at the Ottawa Hospital/University of Ottawa and successfully obtained her FRCPC degree in Hematological Pathology in 2006. Afterwards, Dr. Erfaei worked at the Moncton Hospital in New Brunswick then moved to Ontario to join her family where she worked at Toronto General Hospital. Dr. Erfaei had attended many international and local professional courses for hematolymphoid neoplasms and holds membership with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the Canadian Associate of Pathologists (CAP), Ontario Association of Pathologist (OAP) and the International Clinical Cytometry Society (ICCS).
