Michael joined LifeLabs as a consultant in January of 2019, and assumed the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) in October 2019. In this role, he is responsible for information technology at LifeLabs. Michael has been in the information technology industry for over 30 years, and has experience across various industries, including financial services, healthcare, IT and consulting. He has worked in Canada, Asia Pacific, and Europe, where he held various technical, sales, management and executive positions with large global enterprises.
Michael was previously Chief Information Officer and Head of Information Technology for the Hong Kong Hospital Authority where he led a team of over 1,400 professionals providing IT services to 42 hospitals and over 120 clinics. In this role, he successfully implemented the city’s Electronic Health Record (eHR) to the industry and the public. Prior to that, Michael held positions as Corporate Vice President at Global Wealth Management Technology, Royal Bank of Canada; Group Vice President, Information Technology at American International Assurance Company, Limited (AIG); and, Corporate Vice President and Regional CIO for Sun Life Financial, where he was responsible for regional Operations and IT for the Asia Pacific region.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia and received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Australia. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Directors (FHKIoD), and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society (FHKCS). Michael also serves as a board member and Treasurer for a mental health foundation and a management committee member of a long-term care foundation.
